Sports tech startup, Form, has just released the first-ever augmented reality (AR)-enabled swim goggles, introducing seamless fitness tracking to the pool. Developed in partnership with Olympic swimmers, the goggles can reach a depth of up to 32 feet. Attached to the side of one lens, Form?s computer sits embedded in a small black box, enabling swimmers to display performance metrics in real-time such as total distance, stroke count, total calories and split time. Using accelerometer data, the goggles? onboard processor can even detect stroke types, additionally noting when swimmers turn around or take a break.

Optimus Ride, autonomous vehicle (AV) start-up, has become the public AV offering in New York City, providing autonomous shuttle service in Brooklyn?s Navy Yard. While carrying both a safety driver and software operator, and restricted to a 1.1-mile loop of private roads, the shuttle service is already expected to serve over 16,000 passengers per month. Lowering consumers' barrier to use, Optimus has even made the service free, running between the NYC Ferry stop and the Yard?s Cumberland Gate to embed itself in the daily routine of thousands of commuters.

Samsung has just been granted a U.S. patent to develop smart contact lenses capable of taking pictures, recording videos, and even beaming images directly into a wearer?s eyes. The lenses are designed to include motion sensors, which means that wearers could control devices with their eye movements and potentially give commands to their devices remotely when blinking or using their peripheral vision. @IdeaSpies

A research team at Sweden's Chalmers University has developed a window film capable of absorbing solar energy during the day and releasing the energy as heat into building interiors at night. A few years ago, the same research team introduced the Molecular Solar Thermal (MOST) system, in which solar energy is stored in a liquid medium, then later released as heat. Now, the technology has been applied to a clear film that could be applied to the inside of windows in buildings.
For about two years, Bosch and Daimler have been working for their automated parking system and their hard work paid off as Stuttgart?s regional administrative authority approved it as level four automation or the first true hands-off level of automation. The parking system has just been implemented at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Once you bring your Mercedes into the garage, all you have to do is a quick tap on a smartphone to send the vehicle away to park. Then, it sends the signal to the sensor is called Bosch that can send information to the car about where to drive and where to park. It can also send a warning to the vehicle when there are obstacles and send back the car to its initial drop-off spot at the end of a driver?s visit.

In partnership with Northwestern Medicine, Google researchers created an AI system that detects lung cancer from CT scans better than well-trained humans. The model was trained using more than 42,000 CT scans taken from 15,000 patients during the National Institutes of Health (NIH) study conducted in 2002. Compared to six expert radiologists, when analyzing these CT scans, the model proved to detect cancer five percent more often, with an eleven percent reduction in false positives.
